Here Ye, Here Ye : “The Once & Future King” by JUICE
“The Once & Future King” – JUICE Magazine, Sept 2014 issue
We cannot build the future by avenging the past,” wrote T.H. White in his 1958 Arthurian fantasy novel, and we can only assume that’s the reason behind OSIXNINE’s rebranding in terms of identity, packaging, concept, and not to mention, it’s first men’s collection, Royalé. Since it’s inception in 2006, Yasmeen Zainal, a.k.a. miss.osixnine, has placed OSIXNINE on the forefront of KL’s streetwear fashion with it’s colourful, edgy, and eccentric look, much seen in local artiste Ze! as well as at international tradeshows like LondonEdge. Royalé retains the brand’s core identity via striking teal custom coloured fabric, personally handpicked by her majesty miss.osixnine herself, right down to it’s cutting and stitching.
If you think the Royalé is already exquisite on it’s own, then honey, you should see it worn with a crown.
Here Ye, Here Ye : Interview with ClasstreetTV
When it comes to eccentricity, OSIXNINE is the streetwear label that popped up in our minds. Best known for it’s colourful and edgy designs, founder Yasmeen Zainal found the idea of creating OSIXNINE from altering and tailoring her own clothes due to her petite size. With much encouragement from her buddies, the brand was born in 2006 with a physical store in Subang Jaya.
Besides designing for her brand, Yasmeen also known as Miss Osixnine from her rapper days, is also a graphic designer hence why OSIXNINE’s designs are totally original and always full of surprises.
Now, strictly online, OSIXNINE is back with a new addition of a menswear line, Royalé, which focuses on masculine tailoring with an urbane finish to feed every modern men out there (even ladies, if you’re into menswear). Set to paint the town orange with Yasmeen’s creativity, we’re totally pumped that Yasmeen is up to collaborate with Classtreet as we’ve always admired her fresh take on streetwear.
OSIXNINE will be coming down to Classtreet’s official launch this 30th August at Black Box, Publika as one of our 24 vendors. In the meantime, you can visit Miss Osixnine’s baby, OSIXNINE, at her online store.
Here Ye, Here Ye : Royalé Collection on Masses
Miss.osixnine founded OSIXNINE back in 2006, which led her to opening a boutique in SS15, Subang Jaya. After taking a quick break, OSIXNINE is back to the local streetwear scene by unveiling their new brand identity together with their collection named ‘Royalé’.
OSIXNINE remains true to it’s core identity in this collection, which is colourful, edgy and eccentric. This collection consists of five mens’ tops that were fully customised; from it’s teal custom coloured fabric, to it’s cutting and stitching. We can also see that the designer has incorporated a variety of “royal” themed graphics, vibrant colours and unique detailing in this collection. Some of the tee shirts are even named after well-known rulers and kings such as ‘Royce’ and ‘Cyrus’.

Here Ye, Here Ye! : Interview with GUMBALLMAG
While working on the launch of the all-new OSIXNINE, I was also working together with Kartel Records on a freelance project, the highly anticipated album ‘Kotarayaku’, by Malaysia’s favourite Malay rapper Altimet.
Right after the launch of the Kotarayaku album, I caught up with Kevin Yeoh of GUMBALLMAG.com who buzzed me for an interview & I was more than excited to do so after years being off the radar. Thank you GUMBALLMAG!
You can call OSIXNINE’s Yasmeen a chameleon in her own right. Besides being the lead designer for Altimet’s new album Kotarayaku, she has her own clothing line and has been involved with so many other types of projects from DJing to event organising. Having known Yasmeen for so many years and suddenly having her resurface into the scene stronger than ever, I decided to catch up with the graphic designer born and raised in Subang Jaya who graduated in Creative Multimedia at School of Audio Engineering (SAE) Malaysia. Let’s see what she has to say about working with Altimet, the resurrection of her clothing line and her sister ZE!
What are some of your earliest memory of design and have you always been into art even as a kid?
My mom was an arts teacher so I learned a lot from her – she taught my sister and I different ways of creating art using different techniques and mediums. I’ve always envied the way my mom could draw flawlessly within minutes. Though I’m a lefty, I didn’t have her flare of drawing.
How long have you been a designer?
After being introduced to our first computer at home in 1997, I created “G Spice” – a Spice Girls fan page when I was 11 years old on Geocities using Photoshop Pro and Hotdog HTML Editor. I had about 1,000 email subscribers worldwide. Soon after that I started creating my personal website/blog, so by the time I finished school, I was designing posters and flyers for gigs and proms.
What other jobs have you worked as?
I have dipped my feet in a few things – event organising, traditional dancing, rapping, DJing under Kartel Hitmen, as well as a printing and design agent under my company called Printlah! Printing & Designing Services.
Any Malaysian designers that you look up to?
I follow a lot of local and international designers, we have so so many good designers here in Malaysia. A few designers that amuses me all the time – my second cousin Haris Rashid, Nini Marini, and Jovian Mandagie – his couture collection is to die for!
How has your design style change over the years?
It definitely has! After completing a Branding & Marketing course and designing for various clients over the years, I learnt a lot about what people thought of my designs and what people wanted to see. When I design for clients, I need to adapt to their tastes, but when I am designing for myself, I’m free to use all the bold colors that I wanted!
What are some of your favourite projects so far?
I don’t know what is it about music albums that I love, but my favourite projects are all albums. Anuar Zain’s 2007 album was my first big break that I got to work under the legendary Alex Eu (God bless his soul) and I got to meet Anuar Zain quite often too [laughs]! My sister ZE! I Am Glam album design was also fun because I get to go crazy with the colours. The one that tops it all is Altimet’s Kotarayaku, of course.
So how was it like working on Altimet’s Kotarayaku album packaging?
It was nothing short of amazing! When I first heard of the album concept during our first meeting, I had major goosebumps. Crazy amount of ideas were just pouring out of everyone in the room and we were all on the same page, which is rare with my other clients. At first I was afraid that I couldn’t meet their expectations, but 200 plus emails later, we actually did it. I was literally jumping in my room when everything was completed!
That’s awesome! Tell us about your clothing line OSIXNINE.
OSIXNINE started in 2006 and since then we’ve been selling online, ran our own flagshop in Subang Jaya, dressed celebrities, put on a few fashion shows and exhibited my collection at a trade show in London. I wanted to keep growing but felt my experience and knowledge was limited, which affected the growth of the brand. So with a heavy heart, I decided to put OSIXNINE on hold to figure things out. It was during this time that I did a lot of researching, planning, stressing, breakdowns, and rolling around.
I’m finally relaunching my brand OSIXNINE this year – a colorful, edgy and eccentric high-street clothing brand for both male and female. Now I must say that it was the best decision I’ve made and I can’t wait to share the result with everyone!
How proud are you of your sister ZE?
I’m so proud of her! A little bit jealous too sometimes when she gets to travel and meet all those talented people! I envy her ability to go against all odds, tried her luck overseas, and being able to achieve what she has achieved so far – it’s unbelievable! She’s very hardworking and determined – and she’s living a very colourful dream.
What do you enjoy when you’re not working?
I’m currently obsessed with travelling – I cannot get enough of the people, the culture, the sceneries, and the street art. I also like meeting up with friends for a drink or stay at home and scroll my Pinterest!
What are some of your favourite places for makan?
Mmm, food! Upstairs Café at SS12 Subang Jaya, Momotalo Yakiniku at Sri Hartamas, RSMY in KL, and if I’m too lazy to think, everyone knows I’ll be at my favourite mamak Darussalam at SS15.
Any other big plans for the rest of the year?
I will be launching OSIXNINE with a 5-piece collection for men named Royalè. This for me is the biggest highlight of 2014, among other amazing things I’ve been blessed with so far. Wish me luck! Watch out for OSIXNINE’s big launch!

First, let me introduce myself.
My name is miss.osixnine.
Welcome to my humble abode, my kingdom.
I am the owner of OSIXNINE and I will be signing into the blog every once in awhile.
As some of you might know, I took some time off to rearrange things, and here I am 4 years down the road, re-launching my baby to paint the town orange back again.
OSIXNINE has a fresh new look now; logo, tags, packaging, concept, and a whole new range of clothes. OSIXNINE’s first collection for men, named Royalè, is a fully customized collection – every fabric colour, every stitch and cutting was designed and handpicked by me.
How do you like OSIXNINE’s new look?
